Origin Story

Riordan was born of a brief, passionate affair between Caterina Vannucci and a mortal man of East Asian descent, Akira Kibo. When Caterina revealed her pregnancy, the man rejected her, terrified of her nature and unwilling to claim the child.

Caterina, heartbroken and enraged, spiraled into the reckless hedonism that would define her for centuries. She did not name the child. She did not want him.

Moments after his birth, she attempted to kill him.

Cesare stopped her.
